Are you ready to make a positive change in your life and start living up to your potential? If your answer is yes, I will show you exactly how you can do that. Let’s not waste another minute and start your journey towards a better you today!

The ability to believe in oneself is a trait that is both highly valued culturally and a common denominator among the people around us who achieve success in the workplace and their personal lives.

However, if you weren’t raised in an environment where you were encouraged to believe in yourself, it’s easy to allow your situation and the people around you to dictate your self-worth.

If you’re ready to make a positive transformation in your life and start living up to your potential, here are five ways to change the narrative and get that Negative Nancy out of your head for good!

1. Immerse Yourself in Positive Energy

The first step is to look around you. What information are you feeding yourself? Do the people that you surround yourself with encourage you to grow and excel? What about the content you consume? Content can come in many forms, including books, TV shows, hobbies, and the like. Do the things you do in your free time fill you up with positive energy? If your response to any of those questions is “No,” or “I don’t know,” it’s time to make a change. When something makes a positive impact on our lives, we feel it. The people and activities we choose to fill our time with should fill us up with positive energy, not drain it.

2. Set Realistic Goals

Setting goals can be a challenging task, especially if you have the habit of being overly optimistic about what you can accomplish in a given time or within other reasonable limitations. Setting realistic goals helps us to feel a sense of accomplishment every time we check something off of our list, and it contributes more and more to our feeling of self-belief.

3. Recognize Abilities and Passions

Each one of us has strengths and weaknesses. Recognizing what we are good at and what we love doing helps us to set an intention for moving through the day, week, year, and so on. This motivation will carry over into every aspect of our lives, and when we make it visible, this energy will compel others to value our skills and desires as well.

4. Don't Limit Yourself

Apply for that dream job, even if you think it’s a long-shot. Start taking guitar lessons and set reasonable goals with your instructor to see and measure improvement. So many things seem impossible until we take the first step, and then another. Before you know it, you have walked half-way to the moon, just one step at a time.

5. Practice Self-Belief as Self-Compassion

According to recent psychological research, self-esteem is not as predictive as success as we might think. Instead, according to a study from 2007, it seems that self-compassion has a significant positive correlation with happiness, optimism, personal initiative, conscientiousness, and a slew of other positive psychological traits.

Self-compassion does not mean giving yourself a pass for bad behavior or letting yourself off the hook for every mistake. It merely means recognizing and taking responsibility for your actions without entangling them with your identity or self-worth.

Don’t waste another minute. Start your journey to self-belief today by surrounding yourself with positivity, setting attainable goals, owning your skills and desires, setting yourself free of self-imposed limitations, and practicing self-compassion. Once you’ve committed to these five things, you’ll be on the way to self-belief in no time!
